Fleet Manager-Hunt

Retains and supervises drivers and owner operators. Insures andmaximizes safe equipment utilization and personnel productivity.


ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Directlycarriesoutsupervisoryresponsibilitiestoeffectivelymanagepersonneltoincludeinterviewing,hiring,andtraining,planning, assigning work, appraising performance, disciplining employees andowner operators, addressing complaints and resolvingproblems.

  • Develops, implements and refines department policies and procedures toensure overall effective departmentalperformance.

  • Facilitates rapid solutions to driver questions and problems and servesas the primary channel of communication fordrivers.

  • Workswithoffice/shoppersonnelanddriversto meetcompanygoalsandresolveproblemsaffectingequipmentutilization, driver turnover, and driverproductivity.

  • Provides training and instruction to drivers on varioustopics.

  • Assigns drivers to equipment and conducts all required driver tests inaccordance with company and DOTpolicy.

  • Assists with transportation and accommodations for drivers as needed.

  • Researches and verifies the status and location of company tractors inuse, including drivers on leave of absence, and coordinates tractor retrievalsas needed.

  • Coordinates the scheduling of tractors to be routed to appropriateterminals for maintenance, turn-in purposes, etc.

  • Investigates and resolves issues associated with equipment assignments.

  • Monitors detail invoices, approving for payment and researchinginaccuracies.

  • Serves on the load securement committee; participates in the gatheringof securement equipment comments from drivers and presents summary of findings,including possible recommendations to the committee.

  • Attends driver recruiting events asneeded.

  • Travels to off- site locations as required for training and back upassistance.

  • Serves as a primary channel of communication for owner operators,facilitating solutions to questions and problems.

  • Keeps informed of company policies andprocedures.

  • Receives and carries outinstructions.

  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.



  • Possess knowledge and ability to work with all drivers assisting themin being successful.  This would include,but not limited to, understanding and being able to communicate the importanceof productivity and reasonable in-service %.

  • Possess problem solving skills, including the interpersonal skills ofbeing a good listener, being able to see and understand all sides of an issue,and then being able to communicate company decisions in an effective manner.

  • As a direct contact for our drivers, one becomes a primary source ofsupport for the driver, and therefore must also have the ability to work wellwith other departments in order to fully address driver issues and concerns.

  • Meets deadlines, makes decisions promptly and effectively communicateswithothers.

  • Uses a computer and software programs with limited guidance, asrequired.

  • Ability to read, write, talk and hear; add, subtract, multiply anddivide; and lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. asrequired.



Bachelor's degree(B.A.) from four-year College or university; or one to two years relatedexperience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education andexperience.
